The Wounds of Time
‘Here I was, banging on the door of a house I never wanted to enter again, transported back into the world of an adolescent seething with rage. I’m strong, I told myself. I can cope. I never cry.’
Janet is queen of her realm. Senior Clerk at Hartington Chambers, she is at the pinnacle of a career achieved in the face of hardship. But when work and family crises collide, her life begins to unravel. As disaster threatens, will denying the past and relying on herself be enough to carry her through?

The strongest driver for me while reading The Wounds of Time was the super characterisation of Janet Clarke as well as the relationships with her family and colleagues. I was really rooting for her and was particularly gripped by the health problems she is having and the way she tries to cope with these as well as with the other difficulties the author presents her with. Janet's husband's job as a paramedic had its own story, too, which interested me, and I liked the way this was woven in. The story rolls along at a great pace. I thought the conflict at work might end differently so was intrigued to see how this was resolved. Overall, another really good read by S L Russell! Author Fran Hill
The author once again shows her brilliance in character writing. Janet, the barristers' chambers head clerk, is penned so wonderfully that you feel you know her by the end of the book and have shared her difficulties and traumas cleverly woven into her story. Nikki McVeagh
