Mortal Fire
Historian Emma D’Eresby escapes the predictable safety of her life in Cambridge to seek the journal – the Seventeenth-century diary of an obscure Englishman – a portion of which was left to her by her grandfather. Secreted in the library of a university in Maine, USA, the journal is Emma’s lifelong obsession.
Still, as she takes up the year-long teaching post at the university, she realises that the journal has a rival: the enigmatic surgeon Matthew Lynes. In addition, Emma becomes aware of a more sinister presence haunting the university. Attacks on women heighten tension on campus, and Emma fears that she is the focus of a stalker’s attention.

Beautifully written, full of tension; a compelling storyline that demands one more chapter before I put the light out, just one more chapter. SP (UK)
I really enjoyed reading all the books. They are all page-turners, and something for everyone - history (painstakingly researched), mystery, supernatural and romance. Would highly recommend. JR (UK)
"The Secret of the Journal" series keeps getting better and better with each captivating volume. C.F. Dunn has spun an intricate, thrilling and satisfying yarn with this fourth volume in the series. CHJ (UK)
As much as I am eager to read "Fearful Symmetry," the fifth and final volume in the series, the thought of saying farewell to these strong and valiant characters brings a touch of sadness. I commend this series to all who yearn for a bit of history, mystery, romance and a touch of fantasy. KB (USA)
